Event overview
The McKenzie River Trail Run is a long-distance trail race in Blue River, Oregon. The course is 31 miles (about 50K) and the 2026 edition will be the 38th annual running. Net proceeds support McKenzie Bridge area non-profits. The event operates under a special use permit from the Willamette National Forest and is described as an equal opportunity provider.
Course and logistics
The route begins near Carmen Reservoir off Hwy 126 and follows trails along the McKenzie River, passing Koosah Falls, Clear Lake, lava flows, old-growth forest, numerous log bridges, and Tamolitch Pool. After a short gravel section, the course goes upriver on the Waterfalls Trail, around Clear Lake to the Santiam Wagon Road, through Clear Lake resort, then follows the McKenzie River Trail about 21 miles downriver to the finish across from the McKenzie River Ranger Station. Winter storm damage may require a temporary alternative route; the final course will be announced shortly before the event.
Aid stations are placed every 4-6 miles and provide water, electrolyte drink, gels, and typical aid station food. The race is CUPLESS; participants must bring a reusable cup, bottle, or flask. Drop bags can be deposited at the shuttle pick-up for delivery to Aid 3 at mile 16.7. Organizers plan to clear the course by mid-afternoon and will enforce cutoffs beginning at aid station #2 (about mile 11.5).
Entry and extras
The entry fee is $115 and includes shuttle service between the McKenzie Community Track and the start/finish. Registration runs from January 1 to June 1, with a wait-list and a 50% refund for cancellations received before April 15. Registration is not transferable. Swag and post-race food and drinks are included with registration. Awards are given to overall first, second, and third places by gender category and to top finishers in specified age groups.
