Rainbow Ridge 20k/50k
Rainbow Ridge is a trail running event in Rainbow, OR offering two distances:
- 50K
- 20K
The course totals over 8,000 feet of climbing for the 50K and includes long climbs through old growth forest with expansive views from Macduff Mountain, Horsepasture Mountain, and Kings Castle. The 20K route starts at the upper McKenzie community center, climbs about 2,600 feet to Kings Castle summit, then descends back toward the finish.
The 50K begins with a shuttle to Olallie North trailhead and features an early climb of about 3,400 feet, a summit of Horsepasture Mountain, a lengthy aidless stretch of roughly eight miles that gains about 1,300 feet, a summit at Macduff Mountain, technical descents, an out-and-back through a creek drainage with a small turnaround aid, and a final climb to Kings Castle before a steep descent to the finish. Aid stations are located at multiple mile markers, and the race designates aid stops at Horsepasture Mountain trailhead, Forest Road 411, O'Leary/Castle Rock, East Fork trailhead, and Road 480 near Kings Castle.
Logistics include one drop bag allowed for 50K runners, with staging at the community center and delivery to O'Leary/Castle Rock aid stations. Packet pickup is scheduled the Wednesday before the race at a local shop in Eugene, and race day check in is at the community center. A portion of proceeds will be donated to Bridgeway House.
