Event Overview
The McGregors Beer'd Mile is a themed running event held in Fort Myers, Florida, during St. Patrick's Day weekend. The event takes place at the Bell Tower Shops on a flat course consisting of a 1/4-mile loop. This competition combines running with the consumption of beverages and emphasizes a beard-related theme.
Race Formats
Participants can choose from three different registration options:
- Beer'd Mile: A solo event covering 1 mile where the runner drinks one beer before each of the four laps.
- Beer'd Mile Relay (2 Person Team): A team event where each runner completes two beer and lap segments.
- Beer'd Mile Relay (4 Person Team): A team event where each runner completes one beer and one lap.
Rules and Requirements
The event is strictly for participants aged 21 and older. A non-negotiable rule requires all runners to have a beard or wear one during the entire race. To facilitate this, the organizers provide every runner with a leprechaun hat that includes an attached beard. Beers must be consumed in the designated chug zone. Any participant who becomes ill is required to move safely off the course.
Awards and Recognition
All participants receive a leprechaun hat with a beard and a limited-edition challenge coin. Performance medals are awarded to the top three solo male and female finishers, as well as the top three relay teams. Additionally, the event features a Best Beard Competition where participants can decorate their facial hair for judging. Awards are also presented to the top three contestants in the beard competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
