McCubbins Gulch Trail Race
The McCubbins Gulch Trail Race takes place in the Mt. Hood National Forest, located approximately 23 miles west of Maupin, Oregon. The event is centered at the McCubbins Gulch Campground and features a 6-mile trail course. Participants navigate the route by following orange ribbons placed throughout the forest environment.
The course terrain includes several natural features that require navigation. Runners encounter stream crossings, where they move through or over water, and traverse sections of steep uphill and downhill terrain. The race emphasizes independent navigation, as participants are instructed to monitor course markings rather than following the runner ahead of them.
The event includes social activities at the campground starting the day before the race. Participants have the option for group camping and a communal potluck dinner featuring music and games. Following the completion of the trail run, the event provides food and a beer garden for participants at the finish area. Attendees are responsible for obtaining their own day or camping passes for the forest location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
