Event overview
The May Madness 50K is a one-day event in Hoffman, North Carolina, consisting of ten consecutive 5K races run sequentially over the same day. All ten 5Ks must be finished to be considered a May Madness 50K finisher. Participants must start each 5K with the group; there are no early or late starts and no partial-finisher recognition.
Course and on-site services
The looped course is wheel-measured and approximately 5K per lap. Surfaces are all natural - sand, dirt, leaves, pine straw - with minimal shade and possible occasional horse droppings. There is no water available on the course itself; an aid station at the start/finish area will provide water, Gatorade, some snack food, and basic first aid supplies. Trash containers will be available at the start/finish area and Leave No Trace is required for any bathroom use on the course.
Logistics, rules, and safety
Free camping is available the night before; tents and campers are welcome but there are no hookups. Dogs are not allowed on the course; if a competitor brings a dog, a separate person must monitor the dog while the runner is on course. The director may delay or cancel a lap for dangerous conditions and may stop, pause, or disqualify participants for safety or rule violations. Littering can result in disqualification.
Registration is limited and closes at the director’s discretion. Register by May 13 to receive a shirt; first-place overall male and female receive pottery awards. There are no refunds, no deferrals, no transfers, and no wait list. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
