May Madness 50K : Hoffman, North Carolina, May 23, 2026
The event is a 50K composed of ten consecutive 5K laps run one each hour across a single natural course near Hoffman, North Carolina. The course will be wheel measured and approximately 5K per lap, with surfaces such as sand, dirt, leaves and pine straw and minimal shade. Occasional horse droppings are possible. There is no water on the course.
An aid station at the start/finish area will provide water, electrolyte drink, some snack food and basic first aid supplies. Break times between laps do not count toward total time. All ten 5K laps must be started with the group each hour and finished to be recorded as a May Madness 50K finisher. The event director may delay or cancel a lap or stop, pause, or disqualify any entrant for safety reasons.
Free Friday-night camping is available; tents and campers are welcome but there are no electrical hookups. Dogs are not allowed on the course; entrants who bring a dog must have another person monitor the animal while the entrant is running. Participants should plan to bring sufficient food, ice, shade, seating, insect repellent and sunscreen because there are no nearby restaurants and shade on the course is limited. Heat and humidity are expected to be significant factors.
Registration opens March 1, 2026. Registration is limited; there is no wait list, no refunds, no deferrals and no entry transfers. Shirt orders require registration by May 13. Entry fees vary by date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
