Mathews Marathon & Half Marathon : Mathews Outdoor Club
The Mathews Marathon and Half Marathon are road races held in Mathews County, Virginia, on October 17, 2026. The event offers a full marathon, a half marathon, a marathon relay option, and a virtual race option. Participant entries are limited to 500.
The courses run on quiet rural backroads and through the town of Mathews, using dirt, gravel and paved surfaces. The full marathon route passes three county beaches; the half marathon also reaches a local beach. Both the full and half courses are USATF certified: Full Marathon USATF Cert VA25016RT, Half Marathon USATF Cert VA25015RT. Aid stations are staffed approximately every 2.5–3 miles and provide water and gel.
Logistics and amenities noted for registered participants include a custom hoodie and finisher medal, age-group recognition for top finishers, and a Friday carbo load dinner hosted at the Mathews Family YMCA. There is no race day registration; fees increase on September 1 and there are no refunds starting one month before the event, though registrations may be transferred to the virtual race. Strollers and pets are permitted on course; Mathews County does not have a leash law.
