Mathews Marathon & Half Marathon
The Mathews Marathon & Half Marathon is held on rural backroads in Mathews County, Virginia. The courses mix dirt, gravel, and paved roads and pass local beaches; the full marathon reaches three county beaches while the half marathon reaches a local beach. Both the full and half courses are USATF certified (Full Marathon USATF Cert VA25016RT, Half Marathon USATF Cert VA25015RT) and the event is a Boston qualifier.
The event details include a participant limit of 500, a relay option for the marathon, and a virtual option. Volunteers are staged roughly every 2.5 to 3 miles with water and gel. Pre-registered participants receive a custom hoodie sweatshirt and a finisher medal; top finishers and age-group awards are recognized. There is no race day registration. Registration closes on October 10; the event date is October 17, 2026. Entry fees listed for 2026 are $100 for the full marathon and $75 for the half before September 1, increasing to $125 and $100 after that date. The virtual full or half option is listed at $50. No refunds are issued within one month of the event date, but transfers to the virtual race are permitted.
A Friday evening Carbo Load Dinner is provided by the Mathews Family YMCA as part of registration.
