Mateship Run
The Mateship Run is a community running event held in Currumbin, designed to raise funds and awareness for Veteran Services while commemorating Remembrance Day. The event features several distances and formats that honor the history of the armed forces, specifically the signing of the Armistice in World War 1.
The primary event is the 11.11 km run, which references the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. For participants interested in traditional benchmarks, a timing mat is placed at the 10 km mark to provide a comparative split time. The event also includes shorter distances and relay options to accommodate different participants.
Available distances and categories include:
- 11.11 km individual run
- 5 km run or walk
- 2.5 km Junior Dash
- Mateship Relay (teams of 3)
The Mateship Relay involves three legs: an initial 6.31 km leg starting at Currumbin RSL, followed by a 2.4 km leg to the Dune Café, and a final 2.4 km leg returning to the Currumbin RSL. Relay divisions are available for all-male, all-female, and mixed teams.
A team element is also integrated into the 11.11 km individual event. Open teams can be formed by any combination of male and female participants. The final team ranking is determined by adding together the times of the four fastest runners from each group to create an accumulated total.
The course utilizes the natural landscape of Currumbin and encourages participation from veterans, families, and friends. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
