Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay
The Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay is a multi-discipline outdoor race held in northeastern New Mexico with course elements that cross into southern Colorado. The event includes trail running and a lake paddle in Sugarite Canyon State Park and on Lake Maloya, followed by a mountain bike section that climbs over San Francisco Pass and a shotgun shooting course at Trinidad State College's Prator Gun Range. The event dates are September 11-12, 2026.
Course elements and approximate distances:
- Trail run (approx. 6 miles)
- Paddling on Lake Maloya (approx. 3 miles)
- Biking on rugged dirt roads (approx. 15 miles)
- Shooting course (shotgun)
The paddle section takes place at about 7,500 feet elevation and the bike course rises to around 8,500 feet as it crosses into Colorado. Entry options include solo competitors and relay teams. Published entry fees are $125 for solo competitors or $85 per team member. Possible race divisions list solo male and female categories by age groups and two to four person relay divisions for men, women, and coed teams; relay divisions may be combined depending on the number of teams.
