The Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay
The Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay is a two day multi sport event held in northeastern New Mexico that crosses into southern Colorado. The event combines a trail run through Sugarite Canyon State Park, a paddle on Lake Maloya at 7,500 feet, a mountain bike route that climbs to about 8,500 feet over San Francisco Pass into southern Colorado, and a shotgun shooting course at Trinidad State College's Prator Gun Range. The event accepts solo competitors and teams and is organized by Friends of Sugarite.
Course elements and approximate distances are:
- Trail run, approx. 6 miles
- Paddling, approx. 3 miles
- Biking, approx. 15 miles on rugged dirt roads
- Shooting course, shotgun
Entry cost is listed as $125 for a solo competitor or $85 per team member. Possible race divisions include solo male and female categories by age and 2 to 4 person relay teams in men, women, and coed classifications; relay divisions may be combined depending on the number of teams. Registration is open for the 2026 event and the organizer lists a registration deadline of August 9, 2026.
