Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay
The Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay is a multi-discipline outdoor race held in northeastern New Mexico and southern Colorado on September 11-12, 2026. The event combines trail running, lake paddling, mountain biking, and a shotgun shooting element. The run and paddle take place in and around Sugarite Canyon State Park and Lake Maloya at about 7,500 feet. The bike leg climbs toward San Francisco Pass, reaching elevations near 8,500 feet and crossing into southern Colorado. The shooting element is held at Trinidad State College Prator Gun Range.
Course elements include:
- ~6 miles trail run
- ~3 miles paddling on Lake Maloya
- ~15 miles mountain bike on rugged dirt roads
- Shotgun shooting course
The event accepts solo competitors and 2-4 person relay teams. Published entry fees are $125 for a solo competitor and $85 per team member. Possible race divisions list separate solo male and female categories by age and men, women, and coed relay categories; relay divisions may be combined depending on entry numbers. The event is presented by Friends of Sugarite, with portions of the route and facilities located in Sugarite Canyon State Park and nearby Colorado sites.
