Martha Moats Baker

Martha Moats Baker is a limited-field trail ultrarun on remote Jefferson National Forest trails. The main course is a roughly 60 km route (about 38.7 miles) with approximately 8,000 feet of total ascent and descent. A shorter 50 km "Party Route" option is available near the finish.

The route starts at the North River Gap trailhead (TWOT lot) and uses trails near the Wild Oak Trail. There are three staffed aid stations at Reddish Knob (13.4 miles), Wolf Ridge (22.7 miles), and Grooms Ridge (30.2 miles). Water is provided at these stations; runners also contribute one common food item and may leave up to three small marked ziplock bags with personal nutrition at the aid stations. These personal bags are not for clothing or large items and will be returned to the finish, typically later in the day.

Course marking is minimal; participants are expected to carry a waterproof turnsheet and use the provided GPX file or map to navigate. Parking at the start is limited; overflow parking is commonly used along Tilghman Road. The event limits entries to 60 runners, with entry opening on July 14, 2027. The organizers note that this is a remote event with long gaps between aid stations and no on-course medical personnel; runners are responsible for their own safety and emergency care.
