Massanutten UltraTrax
Massanutten UltraTrax is a one-day endurance walk in Massanutten, VA on April 17, 2027. Participants choose from multiple distances and have ten hours to complete their chosen distance. The event welcomes walkers, hikers, and ruckers and offers optional weighted ruck categories of 10, 20, or 35 pounds.
Distances available:
- 7 miles
- 14 miles
- 21 miles
- 28 miles
The primary course is a mountain trek across the western slope, with flowing singletrack, wider doubletrack, and fire roads that reveal long forested sections and ridgeline views of the Shenandoah Valley. The standard loop measures seven miles with about 553 feet of elevation gain. An optional advanced segment follows the ridgeline and ski slopes and includes steeper elevation changes and technical rock scrambles; this segment is open only in safe weather and may close if conditions are wet.
The event uses a loop format so participants may complete one to four laps. Aid stations are present and stocked on the main course, but there are no aid stations on the final ridge line or ski slope segment. The course is professionally timed, clearly marked, and supported by volunteers. Each participant receives a trail pack with a commemorative patch and a finisher shirt, and higher levels can earn the Grey Wolf medal. A portion of registration proceeds supports the Conservation Lands Foundation. The event proceeds in variable weather unless conditions are judged dangerous.
