The event offers two course options. The Western Slope route uses flowing singletrack, wide doubletrack, and mountain-bike lines with steady climbs and varied terrain. An optional advanced segment along the ridgeline and ski slopes adds steeper elevation changes and technical rock scrambles; that segment is intended for experienced hikers and is open only in safe weather, and it may close if conditions are wet. There will be no aid stations on the final ridge line and ski slope section.
Course details list a 7 mile loop with about 553 feet of elevation gain on the smaller loop. Trails include singletrack, fire roads, and ridgeline sections with broad views of the Shenandoah Valley. The event provides shuttles to the start and parking near the finish. Participants receive a trail pack with a commemorative patch and a finisher shirt, and upper level finishers can earn the Grey Wolf medal.
Additional features include professional timing, well marked trails, stocked aid stations on the main loops, professional photos, discounted lodging at Massanutten Resort, a portion of registration supporting Conservation Lands Foundation, nonrefundable registrations with transfer options for a fee, volunteer opportunities, and a no dogs policy. The event runs in most weather and is only rescheduled if conditions are dangerous. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
