The Market to Market Relay Nebraska is a day long team running relay that routes teams from Seymour Smith Park in Omaha to the Haymarket area in downtown Lincoln. The course covers about 75 miles and is divided into multiple running stages; each runner typically runs about three stages. Teams are commonly composed of six to eight runners and the event is limited to 650 teams.
Stages vary in length and surface. Individual stages range from about 3 to 5 miles and traverse paved bike trails, paved roads, crushed limestone trails, gravel back roads, and occasional highway crossings. The route includes suburban trail segments, rural gravel roads, river crossings on bridges, small town streets, and trail sections inside wooded or prairie areas.
Exchange locations are dispersed along the route and are listed in the race materials and interactive course map. The course can change from year to year because of construction, land use, or natural conditions; recent updates include revised running lines on some stages to reduce gravel time and a relocated exchange in Elmwood that altered adjacent stage distances.
