Market Square Day 10K
The Market Square Day 10K is a road race that begins in Downtown Portsmouth and finishes at Strawbery Banke. The course winds through the city, passing residential neighborhoods and community gathering spots; neighborhood breakfast parties are commonly visible along the route. The event typically draws about 1,000 runners and focuses on a town-center course that showcases the city and local residents.
Since 2005 the race has been part of the Seacoast Road Race Series, a group of community races held from May through November with distances ranging from 5K to 10K in towns across the Seacoast. Streets in the downtown area are closed for the Market Square Day Festival on race day, which affects parking and local traffic. The race is organized by Pro Portsmouth Inc., a 501c(3) nonprofit that presents community events related to the citys arts, culture and history.
