7th Annual Mangum Marathon and Half Marathon
The event takes place on Saturday, January 16, 2027, with start and finish at the Dog Pen near the intersection of Carthage Creek Road and Holly Grove Church Road. The closest postal address is 869 Holly Grove Church Rd., Ellerbe, NC 28338 in Richmond County.

The course uses quiet country roads and rolling terrain. The marathon route begins at the Dog Pen, runs 2 miles then turns right and continues 11.1 miles to a turnaround before reversing back toward the finish. Around mile 22 the marathon route includes a notable climb to Bethel Church. The half marathon turns around at approximately mile 6.55 and returns to the same finish.
Both events are chip timed. Time limits are seven hours for the marathon and five hours for the half marathon.
This is a minimally supported course. Organizers will provide one bottled water stack on Mangum Heartbreak Hill and two manned water stops at about mile 6.5 and the half marathon turnaround. Participants are advised to carry hydration, nutrition, and appropriate gear.
All finishers receive a finisher medal and a technical performance shirt; shirt style is to be announced. Awards include engraved tumblers for overall male and female winners and top three male and female in age groups 0–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60+. Packet pickup is available pre-race at Uwharrie Brewing and on race day at the Mangum start/finish. Porta-john availability depends on registration numbers.
