7th Annual Mangum Marathon & Half Marathon
The 7th Annual Mangum Marathon & Half Marathon takes place in a rural setting outside of Ellerbe, North Carolina. The event features two distances held on country roads with rolling terrain. The start and finish area, known as the Dog Pen, is located at the intersection of Carthage Creek Road and Holly Grove Church Road.
Available distances include:
- Marathon (26.2 Miles)
- Half-Marathon (13.1 Miles)
The course is designed as an out-and-back route. Participants in the marathon run two miles before turning right, continuing for 11.1 miles to a turnaround point, and then reversing the course. Near the 22-mile mark, the route includes a significant ascent to Bethel Church. Half marathon participants follow the same path but reach their turnaround point at approximately mile 6.55.
This event is a minimally supported course. While there are manned water stops near the 6.5-mile mark and a bottled water station at the Bethel Church climb, participants are expected to carry their own hydration and nutrition. Both distances are chip-timed, with a 7-hour time limit for the marathon and a 5-hour limit for the half marathon.
Participants receive a technical performance shirt and a finisher medal. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, as well as the top three finishers in various age categories. Portable toilets are provided at the start/finish area and near the bridge along the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
