MammothMarch North Carolina is sold out. A wait list is available and participants will be notified if additional tickets become available. The event returns to Lake James State Park after a sold-out premiere in 2025 and takes place on October 3, 2026 at Paddy’s Creek Swim Beach, 3092 Lake James State Park Rd, Nebo, NC.
The event is a single-circuit loop covering 20 miles with a total elevation gain of around 1,500 ft. The route traverses a mix of paved and unpaved hiking trails, dirt trails, gravel roads and forest floor. Named sections on the route include the Fonta Flora State Trail, Wimba trails and Mills Creek trail. The final route map will be made available about two weeks before the event.
Aid stations and water stops are positioned roughly every 5-7 miles and provide toilets, food and drinks included with registration; offerings vary by station and may include water, energy drinks, electrolytes, fruit, cereal or protein bars and PBJ sandwiches. The event has no official timekeeping; participants who complete the distance receive a finisher medal and a personalized certificate, and all finishers are listed on the event wall of fame. Participants who stop early receive a certificate stating the mileage covered.
On-site parking is complimentary. A travel partner has secured a limited number of discounted rooms near the venue. Merchandise ordered through the event store is available for pickup on event day, while items ordered from the official online shop are shipped. For safety, there will be a cut-off at aid stations.
