MammothMarch North Carolina
MammothMarch North Carolina is a 20 mile single-circuit hiking event taking place at Lake James State Park on October 3, 2026. The edition following a sold-out 2025 premiere is also sold out; a wait list is available for notification if additional tickets become available.
The event starts and finishes at Paddy’s Creek Swim Beach, 3092 Lake James State Park Rd, Nebo, NC 28761. The route highlights Lake James and its trail network, including sections of the Fonta Flora State Trail, Wimba trails, Mills Creek trail and other park trails. The final route will be published around two weeks before the event.
Terrain includes paved and unpaved hiking trails, dirt trails, gravel roads and forest floor. Total elevation gain is around 1,500 ft. Aid and refreshment stations are positioned roughly every 5 to 7 miles and provide toilets, food and drinks; available items vary by station and include water, energy drinks, electrolytes, fruits, bars and sandwiches. There is complimentary parking on site. A limited number of discounted rooms have been arranged with a travel partner for participants close to the venue.
There is no official timekeeping; participants who complete the distance receive a finisher medal and a personalized certificate. Certificates noting mileage covered are issued for those who do not finish. New participants receive a MammothMarch Hiking Pass while returning participants may present previous passes for 2026 stamps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
