The course starts at the Foothills Watershed property and begins with a roughly 2-mile stretch along the Catawba River. The route then includes a about 3.5-mile trail loop that leads up to Catawba Falls and contains steep staircases, creek crossings, and technical trail sections. Runners will pass mountain views and two waterfalls along the route.

The event supports local trail and land conservation efforts and partners with Foothills Butchery and the Grange of Black Mountain. After the race, local food from those partners is available at the finish area.
