MammothMarch Illinois 2027
MammothMarch Illinois takes place on May 15, 2027, at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area in Chandlerville, Illinois. The site, including the former Panther Creek Conservation Area, totals 16,550 acres. The event is a single-circuit loop of 20 miles through mature forest, agricultural land, grassland and rare hill prairie, with the route mainly looping around Drake Lake and Prairie Lake.
The route is primarily unpaved and includes dirt trails, gravel roads, paved sections and forest floor, with total elevation gain around 850 ft. The event does not use timekeeping; participants who complete the distance receive a finisher medal and a personalized certificate. Participants who stop early receive a certificate stating the mileage covered. Organizers use staggered small group starts with a maximum of five hikers crossing the start together to limit group size, and there will be cut off times at aid stations for safety.
Aid and refreshment stations are positioned approximately every 5 to 7 miles and provide toilets, water, energy drinks, electrolytes, fruits, cereal or protein bars, PBJ sandwiches and other items included with registration. Complimentary parking is available on site. MammothMarch Hiking Passes are available for new participants and returning participants can present their existing pass to collect 2027 stamps.
