Mad Meadows
Mad Meadows is a remote trail running event near Leavenworth, Washington, offered in two distances: a 50k and a 50 mile. The courses run along alpine ridgelines and through larch stands, with long sections of smooth single track, steep climbs, and technical terrain. October larch color is a noted feature of the route.
Both courses start and finish at Grouse Creek Group Campground on Chiwawa River Road. The 50k reaches elevations over 6,000 ft and records about 7,000 ft of total elevation gain. The 50 mile tops out over 7,000 ft and records about 11,000 ft of elevation gain. Runners get views east into the Entiat River Valley and west toward the Dakobed Range and Glacier Peak area.
Aid stations are positioned along both courses, with some water only stops and two aid stations offering hot food on the longer route. The event is cupless; participants must carry a refillable container. Required mandatory gear differs by distance and includes a rain or wind jacket, a specified water capacity, and a downloaded course GPS file. Drop bag availability and crew access are limited to designated aid stations.
Camping is available nearby in national forest campgrounds and dispersed sites, and nearby towns offer additional lodging options. The event operates under a special use permit with the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
