MAD Backyard Ultra - January 16, 2027
MAD Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, TN. The race is a qualifying event for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra. Competitors run repeated loops of 4.167 mile distance; each loop must be completed within an hour to continue. Runners repeat the loop every hour until only one runner completes a final lap.
Crew access is allowed at the start and finish area, and tents and canopies are permitted near the start line. Organizers provide a 3 minute, 2 minute, and 1 minute warning before the next loop. All runners must be in the starting corral and begin each loop at the sounding of the bell. Once on course, runners may not receive aid from crew or non-competitors, and no non-competitors are allowed on the course; restroom stops are the exception. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Volunteers and race workers provide aid at the start/finish area.
The loop runs through Camp Jordan Park and includes exterior track, gravel, and grass surfaces. The course is described as flat, runnable, and non-technical.
All participants receive a coin. The final remaining runner receives a unique award, and runners who cover 100 miles receive a MAD Backyard Ultra belt buckle. Tent and RV camping are allowed; RV spots must be reserved in advance with the race director. Packet pickup is at 323 Camp Jordan Parkway, East Ridge TN.
