MAD Backyard Ultra : Camp Jordan Park, East Ridge TN
The MAD Backyard Ultra is a looped endurance race held at Camp Jordan Park. The format uses a 4.167-mile trail loop that runners must complete once each hour. Runners continue repeating the loop each hour until only one runner completes a final lap.
The course follows exterior track, gravel, and grass surfaces. The route is described as flat, runnable, and non-technical. Volunteers and race staff provide aid at the start and finish area only. Crew access is allowed at the start/finish and tents and canopies are permitted near the start line.
Race rules require all runners to be in the starting corral before the top of each hour and to start each new loop at the sounding of the bell. Each loop has a strict one hour time limit; failure to finish a loop within the hour results in elimination. While on course, competitors may not receive aid from crew or other individuals and may not leave the course except to use restrooms. No pacers or artificial aids including trekking poles are permitted.
Awards and recognition include a unique award for the last runner standing, a participation coin for all entrants, and a belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. The event is a qualifying race for The Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra and is part of the Chattanooga Ultra Championship series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
