MAD Backyard Ultra
The MAD Backyard Ultra is the 6th annual backyard ultra held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, Tennessee, at 323 Camp Jordan Parkway. It is a qualifying event for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra.
Runners repeat a 4.167-mile trail loop each hour. Each loop must be completed within a strict one hour time limit to advance. Officials give a 3 minute, 2 minute, and 1 minute warning before the next loop. All runners must be in the starting corral before the top of the hour and must start each loop at the sounding of the bell.
Crew access is allowed at the start and finish area. Tents and canopies are allowed near the start line. Once on the course, runners may not accept aid from crew or other people and eliminated runners or other non competitors are not allowed on the course. Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until each loop is completed. No artificial aids including trekking poles are allowed. No pacers are permitted. Race volunteers provide aid at the start/finish line.
The loop runs through Camp Jordan Park using exterior track, gravel, and grass. The course is described as flat, runnable, and non technical.
Awards and amenities include a unique award for the last runner standing, a participation coin for all runners, and a belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. Hotels are available within about a mile of the start. Tent and RV camping are allowed and RV spots should be reserved in advance with the race director.
