MAD Backyard Ultra
The MAD Backyard Ultra is an endurance event held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, Tennessee. This race is organized by the Chattanooga Track Club and serves as a qualifying event for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra. The competition follows the standard backyard ultra format where participants must complete a 4.1667-mile loop every hour.
The course is located within Camp Jordan Park and features a flat, non-technical layout. Runners navigate a mix of surfaces, including an exterior track, gravel, and grass. Each loop must be finished within a strict one-hour time limit. Runners must be in the starting corral when the bell sounds at the top of every hour to continue. The race concludes only when one final competitor completes a solo lap.
Participants have access to the following amenities and regulations:
- Crew access and space for tents or canopies are provided at the start/finish area.
- The race organizers provide aid at the start/finish line.
- Trekking poles and other artificial aids are prohibited.
- No pacers or non-competitors are allowed on the course.
- Tent and RV camping is permitted on-site, though RV spots require advance reservation.
This event is part of the Chattanooga Ultra Championship Series. All participants receive a commemorative coin. Runners who reach the 100-mile milestone are awarded a MAD Backyard Ultra belt buckle, and the last runner standing receives a unique award.
