Event details
MAD Backyard Ultra is scheduled for January 17, 2026, at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, Tennessee. It is listed as a qualifying event for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra. The race uses the backyard ultra format: runners complete the same loop each hour and must start a new loop at the sounding of the bell. The event continues until one runner completes the final lap; that runner is declared the winner and all other competitors are recorded as DNF (did not finish).
Course, rules and awards
The course is a trail loop through Camp Jordan Park of about 4.167 miles per lap. Surfaces include the exterior track, gravel, and grass. The organizers describe the loop as flat, runnable, and non-technical. Crew access is allowed at the start/finish area and tents or canopies are permitted near the start line. No pacers or artificial aids (including trekking poles) are allowed. While on the course, runners may not receive aid from crew or other individuals; volunteers will provide aid at the start/finish. Runners must be in the starting corral before each new loop and may use the area behind the start line between loops. Awards and swag include a unique award for the last runner standing, a participation coin for all finishers, and a belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. Hotels are available within about a mile of the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
