Beginners Triathlon - Mackay Triathlon Club
The Beginners Triathlon is an entry-level multi-sport event hosted by the Mackay Triathlon Club at the Mirani Swim Centre. Designed for those new to the sport, the event features a supportive environment with pool-based swimming and courses designed for building confidence. The event is open to both individual participants and teams, where each member can complete one leg of the race.
The competition includes several categories tailored to different age groups and experience levels:
- Mini Kids (Ages 5-6): 50m swim, 1km bike, 500m run
- Mini Kids (Ages 7-9): 100m swim, 2km bike, 1km run
- Mini Kids (Ages 10-11): 150m swim, 3km bike, 1.5km run
- Enticer (Ages 12+): 200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run
The swim leg takes place in a pool with a wave start system. Participants use a transition area located in the pool carpark to switch between disciplines. The bike course is flat and follows an out-and-back route on local roads, while the run consists of a short loop finishing near the athletics track.
The event is open to both club members and non-members. Participants are required to use timing chips worn on the left ankle and must wear fastened helmets before touching their bikes in transition. For those entering as teams, the swimmer and cyclist may join the runner for the final 100 meters to cross the finish line together. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
