Lyke Wake Walk - W-E (guided/supported)
The Lyke Wake Walk was created in 1955 to cross the North York Moors at its widest and highest points. The route runs between Scarth Wood Moor, Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast and is just under 39 miles. The challenge is to walk from one marker to the opposite marker within a maximum of 24 hours; groups on this guided crossing generally take 15 to 18 hours.
This listing describes a guided and supported group crossing. Guides are appropriately qualified, hold first aid training and are insured. Open group crossings are limited to a maximum of 14 walkers and are typically 10 to 12 participants. For larger groups, more than one guide is provided. Private guided crossings are available on request.
Participants receive a full kit list and a training schedule. Each event date has a WhatsApp group for training tips and group communication. The organisers run free training walks on the North York Moors, the North Yorkshire coast and the Dales; these sessions are open to join and do not require booking a crossing.
Provision on the crossing includes water, unlimited sugar based snacks and blister plasters, plus a small surprise gift at the end. Entry fees are £110 per person with a £50 non refundable deposit; the remaining balance is due six weeks before the event. When an event is full, new entries are placed on a waiting list.
