Lt. Joseph Szczerba Memorial 5K
The Lt. Joseph Szczerba Memorial 5K is scheduled for April 23, 2026, at Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington, DE. The 13th annual event brings together runners, walkers, and supporters from across New Castle County to honor the life and legacy of Lieutenant Joseph Szczerba.
The event was established in his memory and directs proceeds to the Szczerba Memorial Scholarship, which provides educational assistance to the children of First Responders. Entry pricing is listed at $25 with a reduced rate of $15 for ages 0 to 18; pricing increases after January 31, 2026.
Participant amenities include a race tee shirt and a post-race gathering featuring food, wine, beer, seltzers, soft drinks, live music, and equipment displays and demonstrations. Awards are given overall for male and female winners and masters, with age-group awards in standard increments: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 plus. A First Responder category recognizes the top three male and female finishers.
