Event Information

The Lt. Joseph Szczerba Memorial 5K is the 13th annual event. It takes place on April 23, 2026, at Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington, Delaware.

The event honors the memory of Lieutenant Joseph Szczerba, an alumnus of Salesianum and an 18-year veteran of the New Castle County Police Department who died in the line of duty in 2011. Founded by his widow, the event raises funds for the Szczerba Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship provides educational assistance to the children of First Responders. All proceeds from the event benefit this fund.

The event is a 5K run or walk.

Registered participants receive a race t-shirt. After the race, there is a party with food, beverages, live music, and equipment displays.
