Event Format
The LSD Back Yard Ultra is an official Backyard Ultra event following the international rules of the Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra World Championship Association. The format requires participants to run a fixed loop of 4.167 miles (6.7 km) every hour, on the hour. The race continues until only one runner remains; that person is declared the winner, or "Last Standing." All other participants receive a Did Not Finish (DNF), regardless of distance completed.
The Course
The event takes place at West Benridge Farm near Morpeth in Northumberland. The looped course traverses farmland, scenic trails, and ancient woodland. It is described as flat and fast, with approximately 200 feet of ascent and descent per loop. The route is fully marked and returns each hour to a main headquarters field.
Facilities and Services
A main headquarters field serves as the central hub. On-site facilities include toilets and first aid. Food vendors will be present, offering hot food and drinks for separate purchase. Parking is included for all athletes and crew.
Participants are allocated a personal camping area on the main field, allowing one 3x3 meter gazebo or tent per runner. An overflow camping area is available for supporters or crew at an additional cost. Well-behaved pets are allowed. Only closed fire pits are permitted, and only within the overflow field. The event will feature a live stream and free professional photography.
Participation and Logistics
Registration closes 14 days before the race day. The event offers tiered pricing. Discounts are available for elite runners based on past performance in Backyard Ultra formats, ranging from 25% to 100% off entry fees. Volunteers can apply by email to assist with various roles.
A full race pack, including a schedule, site map, mandatory kit list, and official rules, will be released closer to the event date and sent to registered runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
