Long Island 6 Hour 60th Birthday Celebration Run and Relay
The Long Island six hour run and relay takes place on September 27, 2026 at Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon, NY. The event is held in memory of Fred von der Heydt and also honors the memory of Nick Palazzo and Bob Sherman.
Participants may enter as individual runners or as teams of four or six, with male, female and coed team categories. Competitors and teams seek to cover the most mileage over a timed six hour period. The course is a primarily flat, scenic route on a friendly dirt path near and around Belmont Lake using a 1.50 mile loop, which provides an aid station every 1.50 miles. A shorter loop is used for the final half hour of the event.
Amenities include post relay food and drink, commemorative crewneck sweatshirts for registrants, commemorative hooded sweatshirts for members of the Class of 1966, personalized bibs for those who register three weeks in advance, live and same-day results, and free finish line and course photos. Medals are awarded to every runner who completes at least 26.2 miles. Awards are given for top overall male and female finishers, top teams in the four and six person categories, and special awards for the top male and female Class of 1966.
A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and the Northport Running Club Youth Program. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
