Long Beach Robert C. McAvoy Labor Day 5 Mile Race

The Robert C. McAvoy Labor Day 5 Mile Race returns for its 36th annual edition in Long Beach, New York. This athletic event takes place on Labor Day and features a 5 mile course that is USATF certified. The route is described as flat and fast, with both the start and finish lines located at Laurelton Boulevard and the boardwalk.

Participants compete across several categories, including:

  • Wheelchair division

The event provides a flat course where baby strollers are not permitted. Registration includes a personalized bib for those who sign up at least three weeks before the race date. All participants receive a t-shirt, which can be collected on the morning of the event. Additionally, entrants are granted free access to the beach for the day by presenting their race bib at any beach entrance.

Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top wheelchair participant. Medals are also awarded to the top three male and female finishers in age groups ranging from 14 and under up to 80 and over. Results are tracked with online updates, and digital finish line photos are provided to participants. The race proceeds rain or shine from the boardwalk location.
