Llyn y Fan
Llyn y Fan is a fell race of 8.8 km (5.5 mi) with approximately 714 m of climb. Registration is at the Llyn y Fan carpark, about 1.5 miles east of Llanddeusant Youth Hostel (GR SN 800238). Entry is online at a fee of £7 with a limit of 50 runners. Refunds are offered for car sharing and for cyclists; drivers arriving with three passengers may receive a refund and minibuses with four or more occupants can have refunds negotiated on the day.
The route is mostly unmarked and runs across remote moorland with sections off-piste. Competitors should be competent in navigation and mountain judgement. Directional canes mark the descent from Fan Foel for the initial gully and the final descent ridge. There are a couple of stream crossings where competitors must choose safe crossing points and the reservoir access road is out of bounds due to maintenance. GPS may be used for route finding but users must notify the race official to be recorded as non-competitive.
Other details: minimum age is over 16 and junior entries under 18 require prior agreement between a parent and the race organiser. Course records stand at 45:01 for male and 55:00 for female, both recorded in 2024. There are no toilet facilities at the carpark. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
