Saunders at Rye Harbor 10k
The Saunders 10k celebrates its 50th anniversary in Rye, New Hampshire. The event features a live race limited to 500 total competitors, alongside a virtual participation option. Participants follow an original course that has been modified, winding through the town of Rye. This course utilizes Central Road for both the start and finish lines, with parking and the finish area situated in a large field near Locke Road.
The event offers two primary categories for the live 10k distance:
- 10k run
- 10k competitive walk
The competition includes cash prizes for top finishers. For the competitive walk, cash prizes are awarded to the first man and woman. A traditional practice continues where special T-shirts are awarded to winners in specific age groups. Specifically for walkers, these shirts are reserved for the first three men and the first three women.
A virtual version of the race allows participants to complete the distance at any location, including on a treadmill, over a span of eight days. Following the conclusion of the live race, the event holds a traditional post-race celebration. The Saunders 10k is endorsed by the New England 65 plus Runners Club.
