Little Su 50K : Overview
The Little Su 50K is a winter ultramarathon held in Big Lake, Alaska. The event is described as 50K covering about 31 miles on a marked loop through the Susitna Valley, with a 12 hour time limit to complete the course.
The marked route starts and finishes at Happy Trails Kennels in Big Lake and shares part of its trail with the Susitna 100. The course crosses swamps, small lakes, wooded areas, the Little Susitna River, and sections of the Big Lake trail system. A halfway water stop is located near Gunmetal Lake.
The event accepts multiple divisions: running, winter-ready bicycle, and skiing using skate or touring skis. Trail conditions vary and can include snow and mixed winter surfaces.
Required gear includes an insulated water container, a headlamp or flashlight, and a rear flashing light. Gear checks are available but not mandatory; racers are referred to the Racer Guide and Gear Guide for full rules and recommendations.
The route is marked for day and night travel with roughly 1,000 trail stakes and reflective tape. Racers are responsible for staying on the marked route; the organizers advise turning back if trail markers are not seen for a sustained period.
