Event Overview
The Linlithgow 10K is a community road running event around the town, organized by Linlithgow Athletic Club. It was established in 1992 and includes a junior fun run. The event raises funds to support the club's work in promoting athletics in the community.
Distances
- 10K road race.
- Junior fun run (separate event).
Course Details
The route goes around the historic town and Linlithgow Loch. It is described as undulating and can be quite challenging. A section of the path behind the loch narrows between 4.4 km and 6.3 km, making overtaking difficult during that part. Some roads are closed for the event, while others remain open to traffic.
Event Information
The race starts in Linlithgow High Street and finishes in the Linlithgow Palace Peel area. There is a strict time limit of 1 hour and 40 minutes for the 10K. A 'sweeper' cyclist travels at a pace of around 1 hour and 15 minutes to indicate the reopening of roads to traffic. Pacers will be offered for finish times ranging from 40 to 65 minutes. The starting area uses a zone system based on estimated running times.
Toilets are available at the Burgh Halls, the Low Port Centre, and some local public houses. Bag storage is provided at the unsecured finish area on the Peel. The town is accessible by motorway (M9 and M8) and has a railway station a short walk from the start and finish, along with several public car parks.
Technical T-shirts are planned for participants, with an option to donate the cost to Macmillan Cancer Support. Results are provided by a timing company and will be available online after the race. Prize money is awarded for various senior and masters categories, as well as for teams and a course record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
