About the race
Women-only, free 5 km community run held on the streets of Royal Tunbridge Wells. The run is presented as an easy-paced, social outing led by local running groups and aimed at creating a safer environment for women to be active outdoors when the nights grow darker.
Participants are asked to wear hi-viz clothing and, where possible, bring a head-torch. Organisers will provide glo-sticks. The event is open to all and participants are expected to wear appropriate trainers for a short road route around Mount Pleasant Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells TN1 1BT.
The event is linked to Sport England and This Girl Can activity to raise awareness about women’s safety and outdoor exercise in winter months. The campaign has reported that almost three quarters (72%) of women in the UK change their outdoor activity routines during winter, with one in four (24%) choosing well-lit routes, almost a quarter (23%) avoiding certain areas, and one in five (20%) checking if someone is following them.
Practical details include an in-person format and a planned duration of approximately one hour. The setting is a community street route in Tunbridge Wells with an emphasis on visibility and collective support rather than competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
