Liam Strong Charity Beach Run
The Liam Strong Charity Beach Run takes place on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Johnnie Mercer's Pier in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The event was created to honor the organizers' son, who died at six months from childhood cancer, and to give back to the doctors and nurses at North Carolina Children's Hospital.
The event includes these distances:
- 5K
- 1 mile fun run
Registration is handled online only. The published registration fees are $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1 mile fun run. Packet pickup is offered the day before at Flying Machine Oyster Bar, with a last chance pickup available on race morning. Metered parking is available near the venue and can be paid with a credit card.
A brief pre-race ceremony will honor the child, with remarks from the organizers and representatives of the hospital. A warm-up session will be provided by ISI Elite Training Wilmington.
Awards are offered for both events. The kids 1 mile fun run honors top male and female finishers under 18 and the top three boys and girls in age groups 8 and under, and 9 to 17. The 5K awards top male and female overall finishers and top three male and female finishers in age groups 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over.
