Lenexa Freedom Run

Event Overview

The Lenexa Freedom Run is an annual running event held on July 4 in Old Town Lenexa, Kansas. The event offers participants a choice between a 5K or a 10K race. Both courses are USATF-certified and described as flat and fully traffic-controlled. The event welcomes runners, walkers, and participants with strollers.

Race Details

The race start time is 7:00 AM. Participants are advised to arrive by 6:30 AM to allow time for parking and packet pickup. Roads in the Old Town area will be closed for the event and a subsequent parade. Parking areas that close for the parade may restrict departure until after 12:30 PM.

Water aid stations are provided at three points on the course: at 99th Street and Alden Street, west of Santa Fe Trail Drive on 95th Street, and at the finish line. Restrooms are available at the start line, at Alden Street and Santa Fe Trail Drive, and at the finish line.

Dogs are not permitted, with the exception of service animals. Strollers are allowed but participants are asked to start near the back of the pack. Race timing uses an electronic chip embedded in the bib number.

Registration & Logistics

Registration opens on March 2, 2026. Fees increase over several periods:

• March 2–May 3, 2026: $28
• May 4–June 21, 2026: $33
• June 22–July 2, 2026: $38
• July 3–4, 2026: $45

Registration includes a T-shirt. A finisher medal is available for an additional $5 at checkout. The event is held rain or shine, with no refunds.

Packet pickup is available on July 3 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on race day from 5:30 AM to 6:45 AM, both at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center.

Awards

Awards are given in multiple age categories for both the 5K and 10K distances. First place receives a plaque, while second and third places receive medals. Awards are announced from a stage in Old Town Lenexa at approximately 8:15 AM for the 5K and 8:30 AM for the 10K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
