Leith Hill Half Marathon
The Leith Hill Half Marathon is a cross-country, out-and-back trail race from the Nower at the western edge of Dorking to Leith Hill Tower and back. The course covers approximately 13.1 miles with around 1,800 feet of total ascent and runs mainly on footpaths and bridleways.
The route climbs from the start, passes Westcott, follows Wolvens Lane to the Plough Pub at Coldharbour, then turns to climb the final mile or so to Leith Hill Tower. The return follows the same track back to the finish on the Nower. Leith Hill Tower is the highest point in south-eastern England and can offer views of London and the South Downs on a clear day.
Race HQ is at The Priory School, West Bank, Dorking, Surrey RH4 3DG. Included in entry are the chance to watch the UK Wife Carrying Race before the half marathon, four water stations at 2, 5, 8 and 11 miles, marshals on course, personalised race numbers, a commemorative reusable medal that doubles as a coaster, a bottle of local beer and a full cooked English breakfast with a vegetarian option. Winners receive Denbies wine prizes. A branded finisher T-shirt with a name can be purchased until three weeks before race day. Entry fees are non-refundable but places are transferable. Profits support the local charity Mid Surrey Community Fridges. The organisers encourage car sharing and use of public transport to reduce the event carbon footprint.
