About the race
The Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley & Pocono DeSales 5K Celebration is the season-closing 5K for program participants held at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA. The event is described as a celebratory closing that gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment; every participant in the program receives a commemorative medal.
The course length is 5K (3.1 miles) and the council presents the event as inclusive and accessible: participants can walk, run, push, or roll at their own pace and designated parking spots are available. For safety, every participant must wear a race bib, the council assigns running buddies for most participants, course monitoring is provided, and staff and volunteers are trained under a safety plan.
Registration details note categories for 5K Buddies (ages 16 and older) and Alumni, with early bird pricing starting at $25 and increasing to $30 on 10/24; online registration closes 11/22 and race day registration is available. Program participants and coaches do not need to register. Merchandise will be sold at a booth to support the council.
Volunteers are used for set-up and tear down, registration, course marshals, running buddies, water and cheer stations, happy hair, inspiration, and finish line refreshments. Dogs are not allowed at the event except for service dogs. Local and national sponsors support the 5K, including partners such as Adidas, Gamma Phi Beta, BAND, and Fleet Feet.
