Leenane 5 Mile Run Jog Walk
The Leenane / Maam branch of the Irish Red Cross organises an annual 5 mile run, jog and walk in Leenane each November. The event starts and finishes in Leenane Village and follows a route that takes in scenery along Killary Harbour and the award winning Golden Mile in Glanagimla.
All proceeds raised on the day are directed to the Leenane / Maam Cardiac First Responder Group to support their upkeep and continued operation. The local unit was established in 2005 and provides volunteer first responders who attend outdoor events across the area.
Registration takes place in the Leenane Community Hall. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third places. Refreshments are provided at the finish, and village volunteers typically supply teas and cakes for participants.
The event combines a measured road distance with a community fundraising purpose and relies on local volunteers for organisation and post-race refreshments. It is presented as a community activity that links local support for emergency medical response with a short-distance road route through notable local scenery.
