MTC Gancanagh (Mount to Coast)
The MTC Gancanagh is a point-to-point ultramarathon held on 16 May 2026 as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge. The route is listed as a total distance of 52.4 miles and includes about 2,942 ft of ascent and a similar descent. The race starts at the Woodfield Hotel, Clifden, County Galway, and finishes at Westport Woods Hotel & Spa. It is also Day 9 of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal® series of Ireland events. This is the first edition of the MTC Gancanagh.
Logistics, rules and entries
Competitor numbers are limited to 20 places plus up to 20 MizMal® entrants, giving a maximum field of 40. Entry options include a standard fee (£90) and a Plus Race Package (£155) that includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. All payments are non-refundable; a personal cancellation insurance option is available at booking. Entrants may defer to the following year for a fee of £15 if requested up to four weeks before the race.
The organiser requires a mandatory kit list including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants before the race and competitor tracking devices with SOS functionality are issued. The event enforces a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this requirement will be withdrawn.
