Leatherwood Marathons
Leatherwood Marathons takes place April 11, 2026 in Ferguson, North Carolina and is organized by Dirty Wolf Racing. The event is staged on private trails in the Leatherwood Mountains and uses a 12 mile loop that gains 3,050 ft per loop. The trail is steep and rugged, featuring roots, rock, mud, and repeated climbs and descents. The course is marked with orange ribbons and yellow arrows; switchbacks and repeated loops are part of the route. Three aid stations are placed per loop with varied supplies, including water, Tailwind, soda, candy, bacon, fruit, pickles, salt, and basic first aid. Aid station access varies by location; one station allows crew access while others do not.
Rules and logistics noted for entrants include no dogs, no strollers, no unregistered runners, no refunds, and a 36 hour cutoff for the 100 mile. Entrants in the 100 mile must have a pacer at dusk for safety. Finishers receive a handmade pottery medal and race swag, and results are posted on UltraSignup.
