Event overview
The LDWA South Downs Marathon 2026 is a day event on 26 April 2026 based at East Dean Village Hall, Eastbourne BN20 0DR. Two distances are offered with an overall time limit of 11 hours for completion. Finishers who complete within the time limit receive an emailed certificate and a light hot meal at the end. A souvenir badge is available to purchase.
Distances and route
- 28 miles - about 4000+ ft of ascent
- 18 miles - about 2800+ ft of ascent
Both routes cross parts of the South Downs National Park, including Seven Sisters, Cuckmere Haven and visits to Littlington and Alfriston. The 28 mile route also includes Firle Beacon and Firle village; the 18 mile route omits those places and returns from Alfriston on an alternative route. Route descriptions, map sections and GPX files will be available for download from 13 April 2026.
Logistics and rules
Registration is handled online; no entries are available on the day. Car parking is in the field next to the hall and luggage may be left in the hall. The event provides three checkpoints for the longer route and two for the shorter route, each with food and refreshments that include vegetarian options. Entrants must carry a route description and appropriate maps (OS Landranger 198*/199 or Explorer 123/OL25), a drinking vessel and sufficient batteries if using electronic maps. The event is open to walkers and runners, membership of the LDWA is not required, and dogs are not permitted except assistance dogs. Under 18s may enter with written parental consent and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Refunds are available before the closing date minus an admin fee; no refunds after the closing date.
