Laurel Highlands Ultra - Fall Classic

The Laurel Highlands Ultra - Fall Classic is a point to point trail ultramarathon held on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. Distances offered include:

  • 50 Mile
  • 50 Mile Relay five person teams with legs between 4 and 14 miles

The course begins near Mile Marker 46 at the Rt 30 trailhead and follows the LHHT south to Mile 0 in Ohiopyle, finishing in town near Falls City Pub. The route includes 46 miles on the LHHT plus a few extra miles to approximate a full 50 mile distance, with over 7,500 feet of ascent and about 8,500 feet of descent.

Aid stations There will be six to seven aid stations located at trailhead parking lots, all planned to be fully stocked and staffed. Every racer must reach the aid stations for checkins and timing. Typical supplies include electrolyte hydration, fruit, sandwiches, potatoes, pretzels, chips, candy, and occasional hot items; vegan and gluten free options are noted.

Relay, crew and pacer information The event includes a five person relay; exchange locations are to be determined. Relay teams must manage their own transport to exchanges. Spectators and crew have access to aid stations at Miles 14, 27, 31, and 39; there is no access at Miles 7, 20, or 44. Pacers may join runners only at Mile 39 and must accompany them to the finish.

Logistics and awards Start line parking is at the Rt 30 trailhead and finish parking at the Ferncliff Trailhead in Ohiopyle. A pre race shuttle is available from the finish lot for a fee. Every finisher receives an award; top awards are given across gender and relay categories. The event benefits the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation, which supports year round trail maintenance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
