22nd Annual Larry Hohler Bi-Continental 5k Fun Run/Walk
The Larry Hohler Bi-Continental 5k is an annual event held in Shoreham, New York, to support the Hope Children’s Fund. The organization provides essential resources such as food, medical care, and education to orphaned children at the Jerusha Mwiraria Hope Children’s Home in Meru, Kenya. This 501(c)(3) non-profit operates with no paid staff in the United States, utilizing volunteer efforts to ensure proceeds directly benefit the orphanage operations.
Participants can choose between two primary event formats:
- In-Person 5k: A USATF-certified (NY23098DNB) and sanctioned course that starts and ends at the lower parking lot of Saint Anselm's Episcopal Church.
- Virtual 5k: A remote option allowing participants to complete the distance at any location through October 17, with time results uploaded by October 24.
The physical course in Shoreham takes place on several surfaces, including a portion of the North Shore Rail Trail. This is a rain-or-shine event that includes family-oriented activities such as a chalk art contest, a costume contest, and various crafts.
Registration options include individual entries and family packs, which cover two adults and two children. Participants who pre-register by September 14 are guaranteed an event shirt; however, shirts are available for in-person participants only. Later registrants may receive shirts on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
