Event Overview
The Larmer Tree event takes place within the Rushmore Estate, specifically starting and finishing at the Larmer Tree Gardens in Tollard Royal. The venue is a historic wedding and event site featuring ornate structures and resident peacocks. The routes extend through the Cranborne Chase National Landscape, crossing chalk valleys and woodlands that served as royal hunting forests for over 800 years. Participants run through tree-lined avenues and along elevated ridges on a mix of private estate roads, open grassland, and woodland trails.
Race Distances
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- Marathon: A two-lap course based on the half marathon route.
- 20 Miles: A combination of the half marathon lap and the 10km lap.
- Half Marathon: A single 13.1-mile lap.
- 10km: A single 10km lap including a specific Canicross category.
- 1 Mile Fun Run: A shorter distance for various participants.
Logistics and Regulations
All courses are marked and marshalled. A cut-off time of 3 hours is in place for marathon runners to begin their second lap, with a total course limit of 7 hours. For the 20 Mile race, runners must complete the first 13-mile section within 4 hours. While the races are not intended for pure walking, a combination of running and walking is permitted.
Registered participants receive a finisher's medal, timed results, and access to "feast stations" stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, and a variety of snacks, including gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options. The number of stations varies by distance, ranging from one for the 10km to seven for the Marathon. Parking is available on-site for a fee, and the nearest train stations are located in Tisbury, Gillingham, and Salisbury. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
