The Lakes 3000 Ultra
The Lakes 3000 Ultra is a mountain running event that covers 54-mile (87 km) with over 15,000 feet (about 4,500 m) of ascent to be completed within a 24 hour time limit. The route links four Lake District 3,000 foot peaks: Scafell, Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw, and starts and finishes at the Keswick Pencil Factory.
Runners follow established Public Rights of Way across valleys, technical ridgelines and remote high-fell terrain. The course is unmarked on the ground but organisers provide a GPX file, a waterproof map and detailed route notes. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and will be checked; entrants confirm they are competent to complete the course.
Event support includes live open GPS tracking, four medical aid stations at key valley locations offering hydration and nutrition, and three high-fell medical safety tents. Entry benefits listed by the organisers include the GPX file and route notes, an official Lakes 3000 buff, an open tracking photo dashboard, a finisher’s medal, hot food and drink at the finish, a drop bag facility and race pack materials.
Entry age minimum is 20 years. Entries for the 2027 event are provisional pending final approvals; if approval is not granted entries will defer to 2028 under the organiser's stated policy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
