Lakeland Trails Ultra - Ambleside 10 July 2027
The Lakeland Trails Ultra is a multi-distance trail event held in Ambleside on Saturday 10 July 2027. It offers the following courses:
- 100 km Ultra
- 55 km Ultra
- 23 km Trail run
- 14 km Trail run
The routes run on mainly hard packed trails with some muddy sections and include mountain passes and scenic sections through the Lake District. All courses are waymarked and marshalled, with GPX files available for the Ultra distances; the 23k and 14k cross private land so their GPX files are not shared. The 100k course is self-navigated until Patterdale where it joins the 55k route. NEW for 2027 all 55k runners will have live trackers and the Ultra 100k and 55k have real-time GPS tracking; the 23k and 14k use chip timing.
The 55k route includes multiple mountain passes and substantial ascent; the 100k adds further passes and additional climbing. Feed and water stations are provided on the Ultra courses and on the shorter routes at designated locations. Strict safety cut off times will be enforced for runner welfare.
Compulsory kit and a formal kit check apply to the 55k and 100k and photographic ID is required to collect race numbers. Mandatory items include waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a charged headtorch (with spare for the 100k), a first aid kit, a long-sleeved base layer, hat and gloves, whistle, mobile phone, emergency blanket or bivi, a cup, and unopened emergency food and drink. Bag drop is available for 100k runners in advance of race day.
The start and finish arena in Rothay Park includes an event village with food stalls, trade stands, PA commentary and entertainment. The 55k and 100k have been evaluated by ITRA and carry 3 and 4 points respectively when run in the Race category. Spectators are welcome at the start and finish; some checkpoints and feed station areas are restricted to competitors only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
