Lakeland Trails Marathon, Coniston
The event comprises a series of trail running races based at Coniston Sports and Social Centre, Coniston, Cumbria. Courses form a circuit around Coniston Water and include scenic points such as Tarn Hows and Beacon Tarn, with views of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. All courses are fully marked and marshalled.
Distances available
- Marathon, full circuit of Coniston Water and surrounding trails.
- Half Marathon, follows the marathon route out to Tarn Hows then returns.
- Mini Marathon 10k, a 10 kilometre route incorporating Tarn Hows woods.
- Stretch Trail 5k, new for 2026 following the first section to Tarn Hows.
Course and support details The terrain is mainly hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections, featuring graded runnable climbs and descents. Water and feed stations are provided at set points: Oxen Fell and Tarn Hows for the half; additional stations for the marathon include High Cross, Water Yeat and Sunny Bank. Competitors are expected to carry their own water or bring a reusable cup as cups are not supplied at stations.
Event village and rules The venue includes an event village with food and drink stalls, PA commentary, live music and merchandise. Advanced life support medics and a large team of marshals provide safety cover. Entry requires participants to be at least 18 years old. Dogs are not allowed on the running courses and bone conducting headphones are permitted while over ear and in ear headphones are not. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
