Marathon, Half Marathon, Mini 10k and 5k - Coniston
The Lakeland Trails event is a set of marked and marshalled trail races that loop around Coniston Water and pass through Tarn Hows and Beacon Tarn. The marathon course follows footpaths and bridleways and offers views of Coniston Water and surrounding peaks such as the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Runners' World described the route as "the most scenic trail Marathon in Britain."
Courses and distances include:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- Mini Marathon 10k
- Stretch Trail 5k
- Additional 6k route
Routes are waymarked and staffed by volunteers. Feed and water stations are provided at specific points on the marathon and half marathon courses; competitors are asked to bring a reusable cup because paper or plastic cups are not supplied. Feed stations offer items such as bananas, crisps, jelly babies, flapjack, water and flat coke.
The event village is at Coniston Sports and Social Centre and includes bar seating, food and drink stalls, retail stands including Pete Bland Sports, live music and race commentary. Portable toilets, baggage storage and real time results are available. Safety measures include event medics, radio communications and marshals; dogs are not permitted on the running courses and in ear headphones are not allowed, though bone conduction headphones are permitted. Car parking is managed on nearby fields and the postcode LA21 8AL directs to Coniston with further event signage for parking. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
