Lake James 7 Miler & 5k in Nebo, NC
The Lake James 7 Miler and 5k start and finish at Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Farm in Nebo, North Carolina and run on trails within Lake James State Park. Both courses use single track trails, a paved pathway to the beach, and sections of the Overmountain Victory Trail and Paddy’s Creek and Mills Creek trails. Roads along the course are open to traffic; runners should be aware of vehicles. The 7 Miler totals about 425 feet of elevation gain and does not have mile markers.
Race registration includes a finisher medal, a race shirt, one Fonta Flora beer or an alternative beverage, and a donation to the Lake James Environmental Association. All races are chip timed and held rain or shine. Dogs and strollers are not allowed on the course but may remain at the brewery area; service animals may be allowed with prior approval and supporting documentation. There is a two hour course limit for the 7 Miler.
Aid stations provide water only. Aid locations:
- 7 Miler water at miles 1, 4.5, and 6 with bathroom access at those points.
- 5k water at miles 1 and 2 with bathroom access.
Packet pickup is available early at Mountain Running Company and on race day at the venue. Parking includes a main Fonta Flora lot and an adjacent overflow gravel/grass lot; event parking signs and volunteer directions will be used. The event has a no refund policy; registration may be transferred or converted to virtual up to five days before the race. Virtual entries can receive mailed swag within the US. Awards include cash and custom awards for top finishers by gender and nonbinary categories, masters and grand masters prizes, and Fonta Flora pint glasses for age group top three finishers; awards require presence and virtual runners are not eligible.
