48th Annual Lake Hartwell Dam Run : Event Overview
The 48th Annual Lake Hartwell Dam Run takes place on May 2, 2026, at Big Oaks Recreation Center in Hartwell, Georgia. Organizers have revised the course and distances for 2026 because the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will perform floodgate maintenance that will periodically close the top of the dam and adjacent roads. As a result the course will not cross the dam or access Highway 29.
The event for 2026 is limited to a 4K run/walk. The 10K option will not be offered. The run is chip timed, and because of the altered course it is not USATF certified. No race day registration will be available. Registration fees are listed as $30 with a tech shirt included and $20 for a no shirt option; mail‑in and online registrations must be received by April 19, 2026 to be guaranteed a shirt and general registration closes on April 29, 2026.
The course begins at Big Oaks Recreation Area, follows the Dam Path to the edge of the dam, then turns around and returns to the start and finish area. No strollers or pets are allowed on the course. Awards are given for overall, masters, grandmasters, and age group placings. Food, water, and sports drinks will be available at the finish line.
