Event overview
The Labor Day Burke Lake race offers two distances:
- 5k
- 10k
The event takes place at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA. Points from the race count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack series, and toward the Summer Series. A virtual race option is available. Walkers are welcome. Registered runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Dri-Fit) event shirt, and chip timing.
Course and logistics
The course is a combination of paved road and trail. The first and last half mile of both distances are on paved roads. The trail section has some roots but is described as fairly well maintained without major elevation gains. Water stations are provided: two on the 5k and three on the 10k, with Gatorade available at some stations. Restrooms are located near the ice cream parlor. Packet pickup is available at the event, and race day registration is offered.
Fees, shirts and results
Early registration fees are listed as 5k: $30 until Aug 15 ($35 after) and 10k: $45 until Aug 15 ($50 after); prices increase on race morning by $5 per distance. T-shirt sizes are guaranteed for runners registered before Aug 26. Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday following the race.
Awards and charity
Top three men and women overall are awarded post-race. Age-group awards (1st and 2nd) cover ranges from 19 & Under through 70+. Overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. The event benefits the Lilly and Blair Foundation, which funds research and support for children with de novo spastic paraplegia. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
