La Llorona "Ditch Witch" Run
The La Llorona "Ditch Witch" Run is an October running event held along the cottonwood-lined trails of Albuquerque's Bosque near Sagebrush Community Church, 6440 Coors Blvd. NW. The event draws on the La Llorona legend and includes evening and daytime elements.
Distances offered:
- 10K
- 5K Run/Walk
- Kids K
- La Llorona Twilight 5K
A La Llorona Double Dare Challenge allows participants already entered in the 10K or 5K to add the Twilight 5K for an additional fee; entrants receive a separate bib and official timing for each race. The event provides an event t-shirt and a finisher medal for participants, along with a well-stocked finish table and finish-line refreshments.
Course support includes water and Powerade stations, professional timing using a disposable bib tag, and free photo downloads after the event. Age-group and overall awards are given, and the program includes a costume contest and La Llorona storytelling as part of the post-race activities.
Runner packet pick-up and late registration take place the day before at Fleet Feet Sports, North Towne Plaza in Albuquerque from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. Out-of-town participants may pick up packets on race day from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. The event is organized by RunFit, a 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on community health.
