Event overview
La Jornada de Las Quebradadas is a trail ultramarathon held in Socorro, New Mexico on February 14, 2026. The event is presented as a 53K race, while published race specifications list the length as 32 miles. The course has a reported total elevation gain of 3300'. The registration fee is $75. A portion of race proceeds will go to maintenance of local trails and to the Socorro High School cross country team. First-place male and female winners receive a $50 REI gift card. Participants receive a meal from the local food truck Cubish.
Course and logistics
The route begins at a small pullout off the Quebradas backcountry byway. The approach road is described as generally passable by most sedans but includes some washboard sections; organizers encourage carpooling and note nearby parking at Escondida bridge park. There will be at least one rented portable toilet at the start area and public restrooms at Escondida Lake Picnic Area.
The course starts with about 7.5 miles of single and double track through arroyos and limestone outcrops, then follows dirt roads and 4WD tracks through a looped section. Notable features include sandy, beach-like stretches, sandstone outcrops, two yellow gates, and a section that passes through an opening in a barbed wire fence.
Markings and aid stations
Course markings will use ribbons and are described as minimal but adequate. Aid stations are minimal but provide water and snacks; one location may be water-only. Cutoffs at several aid stations will be strictly enforced for safety. Runners are advised to carry personal nutrition items if they use specific mixes or gels.
