Kokoda Challenge - Gold Coast
The Kokoda Challenge Gold Coast is a team endurance hike held in the Gold Coast Hinterland on 18–19 July 2026. The event follows trails through dense forest, steep ridgelines and creek crossings and includes prolonged elevation gain across the course.
Distances offered:
- 30 km: 12 hours to complete, 3 checkpoints, no support crew, minimum age 10.
- 48 km: 20 hours to complete, 7 checkpoints, 1 support crew checkpoint, minimum age 13.
- 96 km: 39 hours to complete, 13 checkpoints, 4 support crew checkpoints, minimum age 15.
Teams are required to enter; solo entries are not permitted. Team size and registration categories vary by distance and by school entries. Each team must meet a minimum fundraising target before the event; fundraising supports the Kokoda Youth Foundation and its youth programs.
The course description notes significant climbing with over 4,000 metres of ascent reported on the Gold Coast route and passage over the event's Big 5 mountains. Start locations include Mudgeeraba and other designated start points, with the finish at Nerang Velodrome. Support crews are strongly recommended for the 48 km and 96 km distances and are provided access to designated checkpoints.
Course maps and detailed support crew locations are published before the event. Parking is available near the start and finish areas though space is limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
