Kokoda Challenge - Gold Coast
The Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast is a team endurance event held in the Gold Coast Hinterland on 18-19 July 2026. Teams of two to five people choose from three distances and traverse marked trails that include steep climbs, ridgelines, dense forest and creek crossings.
Distances and basic formats:
- 30 km - 12 hours to complete; 3 checkpoints; minimum age 10.
- 48 km - 20 hours to complete; 7 checkpoints; 1 support crew checkpoint; minimum age 13.
- 96 km - 39 hours to complete; 13 checkpoints; 4 support crew checkpoints; minimum age 15.
The 96 km course includes the event’s Big 5 mountains and involves more than 4,000 metres of climbing, creek crossings and sections that continue through the night. All entries are team entries only; solo entry is not permitted. Support crews are strongly recommended for the 48 km and 96 km events and are not provided for the 30 km event.
Each team must meet a minimum fundraising target in addition to a registration fee. Example fees and minimums vary by distance and team composition, for example a four person team for 96 km lists a registration fee and a minimum fundraising amount. The event starts from locations around Mudgeeraba and finishes at the Nerang Velodrome, where finishers receive a commemorative dog tag. Course maps and checkpoint details may be subject to change.
