Kiwimbi 10K, 5K, and Fun Walk
The Kiwimbi Run-Walk takes place at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The event features multiple participation options held on a paved, flat, and shaded course within the park grounds. Both the 10K and 5K distances are USATF sanctioned and timed races, and they are part of the Grand Prix. In addition to the running events, there is a 5K Fun Walk designed to last approximately 45 minutes, reflecting the average commute time for a student in rural Kenya walking to school.
Participants can expect the following distances and categories:
- 10K run
- 5K run
- 5K Fun Walk
- Remote participation
The event atmosphere includes Kenyan pop music and a variety of food, including Kenyan treats. Water stations are positioned along the course to assist runners. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female overall finishers. Additionally, awards are presented to the first-place male and female finishers in age groups ranging from 15 and under up to 90 and over.
All proceeds from the event benefit Kiwimbi International to support educational opportunities. The races are held rain or shine, and participants who register by April 1 are guaranteed an event t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
